The Brief
A sourdough bakery in Crystal Palace needed a website that reflected the warmth and craft of their baking. The brief called for a site that could showcase their daily-changing menu, promote hands-on workshops, and drive online orders — all while feeling as artisanal as the bread itself. We designed a rich, textured experience with deep earth tones, full-bleed bakery photography, and a layout that draws visitors into the story of the bakery before guiding them to order or book.

Ember & Grain is a concept design for a sourdough bakery and café in Crystal Palace. The imagined brief: a husband-and-wife team — Maya, a former architect, and James, a former restaurant manager — opening a wood-fired bakery that puts process and provenance at the heart of everything they do.
We wanted the site to feel as tactile as the bakery itself. Deep earth tones, close-up grain photography, and a layout that draws visitors through the story before presenting the menu or workshop schedule. Every page is designed to build appetite — both literal and emotional.
The site includes a full online ordering system, a workshop calendar with booking, and a newsletter that keeps regulars engaged between visits. It demonstrates how a small food business can compete online without losing the handmade feel that makes them special.
